Short Film Research Part 2

Short Film Research

Enough – Tor Kristofferson 2008

This film is a reflective piece on the state of today’s economic position in regards of young anti-social activity. It portrays a strong message as it uses scenes of a violent nature and ones that an audience may be able to connect to. The short film contains a strong twist that causes discomfort and realisation of the bigger picture, this is very effective as it causes emotion upon the viewer and is a good way to portray a meaningful subject. The film is quite structured and has a clear structure and storyline to prevent any confusion.

Lucky – Eb Hu 2009

Lucky is an animated film that uses a wide range of effects to promote a sad and meaningful film, the sound that goes with the film is a piano playing a slow deep tune creating an atmosphere of sorrow and upset. The film shows a range of animals that got away from death by having them in everyday situations, for example a cat is next to a wall where lots of tiger’s heads are. The camera shots are all long edits to enable the viewer to grip onto the situation therefore enhancing the thought and emotion throughout the short film. This type of outlook over the film is quite inspiring and opens the opportunity for me to involve similar techniques in my film of an outside view.

INSiDE

This film uses a big range of techniques that are very effective, this film tackles the illness of schizophrenia using some very inspiring and effective methods of showing how someone with the illness may see the world. Also a wide range of shot styles and edits are shown making the film almost unusual as it has such a variety in a short space of time. This may reflect the state of mind the main subject is in. INSiDE also contains a twist making it very exciting right until the end which grips the viewer until the very ending, exciting the viewer is a very good technique to use, in this film it is done by always wanting to know more, as there are more than one main subject. As all of his personalities are actually visual this interests the viewer by having more than one main focal point.

Le Cheval 2.1

This is a very interesting film as it is shot in a very traditional French method; the whole film is in black and white with English subtitles as the speech is in French. There is dialogue throughout the film expressing his feelings about if he was a horse which uses a voice over. The film shops some effects such as slow motion as he runs through the fields to get a real grasp of how his and a horses movements are similar

Film Ideas

The main idea of my film is to portray the life of a Schizophreniac, i was influenced by a short film i watched on Youtube. The way that the film 'Sin City' was filmed interests me and i would like to somehow involve high contrast filming in my short production. Also I have a few Keywords that are currently influencing me further on my ideas for my film so far. These words are:
Abstract
High Contrast
Colour Splash
Drugs
Dark Side And Light Side
Location
Music
Art
Unusual Powers
I have thought about locations where i think it would be effective to shoot my film, this is an old run down building in chelmsford which i will have to get permission to access before i do so. I also thought about the actor/s in my film which i think would be an asset to the film and portray my idea very nicely.
The effect of only having a few colours visible to the camera throughout my film also an idea i may include.
